I have felt and seen it all!
Felt the pattering feet of the child
Playing with his friends;
Jumping,
running up and down
over me;
sometimes thumping in sheer joy,
sometimes on tip-toe
when playing a game of hide and seek.
Her exuberance,
The warmth of her happiness
Perhaps making me a bit like humans.
Then she grew up and her beauty,
Made me sigh every time
She stepped on me with her dainty feet.
Her nightly escapades,
Passionate kisses
and embraces
of her lover,
kept me enveloped
in the warmth of love
that the bloom of youth
had kindled in her soul.
The warmth, perhaps
Making me more human with each.
Then everyone went away.
A cold emptiness descended,
leaving me brittle.
No longer protected
by the human warmth,
I was left for the elements of nature
To take its toll;
Wearing me,
Chipping and
Cracking me till
I was left,
Once again,
A cold worn out stone!

Oh that IS good news, bring us MORE poems, please!! There was an incredibly fine poet here who passed away within the last couple of years, whom I was very close to (as poet-friends), for he was quite supportive/encouraging of my writing–although no one can really be replaced, I dare say you may be able to occupy his bereft chair. I’m very glad to make your acquaintance π
