Poor woman’s winter-
In her thoughts, the warmth of fire.
Fallen leaves, she thanks.

In cities though, the leaves are replaced by plastic waste and egg cartons. Winter, I have always felt, is harsh on the poor. 🙂

Poverty brings so much hardship with it…In India, places like Delhi still have cold related deaths.

Goutam, I like this senryu very much. I feel the pain of the people who perish from the cold in India. There is so much poverty in our world. I wish it wasn’t so. Very powerful poem. ❤

Am so happy that you like the Senryu. Yes, winter season is when the odds are heavily stacked against the deprived people. It is quite a challenge for them to survive.

Years ago, my husband was stationed in Thailand. He said it was the same way there. When the cold weather came, many perished. It’s so sad. ❤

Yes….come winter, one of the humanitarian works being undertaken by a few people/institutions in India is distribution of blankets to the needy. Despite this the effort is like a drop in the ocean.

I can only imagine the magnitude of the problem. ❤️
