No Rainbows

An endless night.
Kept awake by screams
Inside the head
And hunger
In their bellies.
Endless streams of tears,
Like torrential rain, 
Creating a haze around the eyes.
A country,
Now no longer theirs.
Uprooted from their land
Forced into a life of vagabonds!

A dream shattered.
Struggles threaten to break resolve.
Ends never seeming to meet.
Happiness feels like on perpetual retreat.
Colours never come calling.
Shades of grey always looming.
No rainbows decorate their piece of sky.
There's endless sorrow
Till it's their day to die.

  1. “There is no rainbow”, you have described the refugee issue clearly. Naming different feelings and circumstances. The poem is different from other rainbow poems which make is unique and special. Thank you.👏👏

  8. Unfortunately there are too many places in the world where your verse can fit…
    We can only hope that more will see such plights and share the light that can bring color.
