The strays on the road; We never know how much They have to endure. Homeless they live; The brunt of every season borne stoically. Their bodies hardened to defend, Every virus, disease reduced to irrelevance. Through hunger, thirst, danger thrust on them by speeding vehicles, They live on. Never bitter, Never gloomy, Never looking at humans as enemy. Always ready and waiting to give love, unequivocally. They are the superheroes, Despite the absence of the Cape.

No much how much they suffer, if you’re kind of them, their gratitude will soften even the coldest of hearts. Such a heartwarming take on the prompt

Animals know who they can trust. It would be nice if more where given homes.
I read that many shelters were actually emptied out during Covid 19. I hope those who were given homes don’t get returned.

Very true. In India, the strays are a constant sight in most of cities and towns. There has been an improvement in their living conditions, thanks to efforts by many individuals and NGOs who come forward to help out. Recently the High Court in one of the Indian states recognised the need for strays to have a better life and upheld the right of citizens to feed and care for stray animals. It is, in my opinion a big step although, lot more still needs to be done.
