Not a sound can penetrate; The veil of silence Meshed intricately with the green forest cover is tough to break. Only the twitter of birds reverberates within the dome of green Stretching overhead. Hushed voices here, Seem appropriate. Letting the soul to converse With nature’s elements. Burn that newspaper! Shut off the phone! Farewell to civilisation for now! In nature’s domain We hereby choose to remain. PS: Satyajit Ray was a world renowned film maker from India who had won many a laurels for his films in International stage during his time. One of his films in Bengali language is called "Aranyer Dinraatri", a film where 4 friends suddenly decide to go to a forest resthouse for a weekend outing. The forest rest-house, a rest shelter for district forest officials is set deep inside a forest, far away from human civilisation. So enamoured are the friends with the natural beauty of the place, that they wish they could settle down here for eternity. As a symbolic gesture of severing all connection with the civilisation and world outside, they burn the only newspaper ( mobile phones were not in vogue when this film was made) that they had carried with them to the place. This picture reminded me of this scene and my poem is an attempt to capture this movie scene.
I think life would be peaceful if we aren’t bombarded constantly with bad news. I love your take Goutam. Thanks for joining in.
